Canvas stretcher frames, Oil painting grounds

     Canvas Stretcher Frame is made of dry wood. Its side, the one to remain under the canvas, is tilted so the inner edge of the canvas stretcher frame does not touch the canvas. For frames, bigger than 1 sq.m., one needs crossbars.

      Oil Painting Grounds contain adhesives (glue), fillers (zinc white, white lead), binders (linseed oil), insulators, strengtheners and other. Oil painting grounds are usually applied on the canvas in several layers beginning with adhesives and each of the following layers is “a little oilier” than the previous one.
